Hanbin appeared as a contestant on CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment's survival show I-LAND. In the first episode, he played SuperM's "Jopping", along with NI-KI and Nicholas, but was "knocked out" and unfortunately couldn't get into "I-LAND" the entire time, staying on "Ground" until the seventh. episode. Hanbin occupies the lowest rank; he was in twelfth place with global votes and thanks to that he went to part 2 of I-LAND, to be part of the 12 finalists. Throughout this part he was rising in rank as he fulfilled each of the missions entrusted to them.
In the first mission, he performed a BTS song, 'DNA' along with K, Jay, and Ni-Ki, finishing at No. 9 by the producers' decision. The second mission, "chemistry test among the participants", was divided into two groups, performing "Dive Into You" Hanbin with Jay, Sunoo, Ta-ki, Ni-ki and Daniel; the elimination was given by global vote, remaining in position 4.
Proof of concept, third mission. First a mini audition was held, where Hanbin would perform "HIT" with K, HeeSeung, Jay and Ni-Ki, performing in front of 4 members of SEVENTEEN (The8, Jun, Hoshi, Dino), and where the boys of SEVENTEEN chose as a winner of Sunoo, getting the advantage of choosing the song he wanted and the members of it. Hanbin stayed in the group of 'Flame On' with K, Jay, Ni-ki and Daniel, Hanbin being eliminated, thus remaining in rank 10.
On September 12, the official YouTube account of CAC, a VIETNAM DANCE GROUP founded by Hanbin, uploaded the SPECIAL THANKS FROM HANBIN to its channel, where hubi thanked all his fans for all the support received and that he was in contact with his company for future plans regarding his debut.
On October 31, 2020 he had his first Fanmeeting Online, thus becoming the first trainee to have a FanEvent.
On December 8, it was confirmed that Hanbin would be performing at Big Hit's New Years live concert.
On December 16, Hanbin officially opened his Twitter account and gave good news by leaving a post that read, "Hi, this is Hanbin ~ My Twitter opened today! Thank you to my fans who have been waiting!
